Are the democrats totally insane?
So Hillary is running… Personally I think the US could use a woman president. I’m not sure if Hillary is the right woman, but that’s another discussion.
The problem with Hillary is that a lot (and I mean a lot) of serious Republicans hate her guts. They hate her so much that the eventual Republican candidate could go on national TV and strangle puppies and kittens and these people would still vote Republican.
The thing I have trouble understanding is why they hate her so much. Really, she’s not all that liberal. She’s a pretty moderate candidate, all things considered. But that’s not really the issue here.
Whatever the case, she’s a lightening rod. If the Democratic money machine can’t figure that out, they’re their own worst enemy. If the Democrats want to win in 2008, they can’t nominate her.

Hey Brian. I agree with all your points (as usual):
But serious Republicans will hate the guts, effectively, of any Dem contender. And the opposite is true too - most Dems would vote for Sen. Clinton even if they hated her guts. I think she’s a lightening rod because of her personality and presumptions about her more than because of the actual issues she champions. I think she’d make a good president but it might be better for her to be the VP candidate in 08.

Ever hear of BDS — Bush Derangment Syndrome? It refers to George W. Bush’s remarkable ability to drive his opponents insane. He’s a rather moderate conservative and Republican, nothing out of the ordinary. But normally rational liberals leap at the opportunity to compare him to Hitler, predict the coming apocalypse, etc. This has served to Bush’s advantage, particularly in the 2004 election, when the insanity of much of the Left that resulted from BDS drove much of the middle into Bush’s court.
HRC has the same advantage. She’s a fairly moderate, center-left waffly Democrat, nothing out of the ordinary. But she somehow makes normally sensible conservatives start comparing her to the anti-Christ and Joseph Stalin. If the gets the Democratic nomination, then the Republicans may sabotage their own candidate.
